Unfazed by the scientific age, pashmina shawls are hand spun the same way it has been done for centuries. The hairs are gathered from the Himalyan goat called Hircus, which lives at high altitudes, 12 to 14000 feet in the mountains. The Pashmina is gathered by hand, stored and combed by nomadic herders. The threads are hand woven on handlooms over a silk wrap, which gives the fabric resilience. Once the fabric is loomed, each piece is hand dyed in open vats. Afterwards it is given to the different craftsmen for hand-embroidery, beading and /or printing.

I ordered 8 of these in Inky Navy to give to my bridesmaids to wear the night of our wedding. My girls were wearing very formal navy satin dresses and I was a little worried that the color might clash with the dress, but I when they arrived I was pleased. The package arrived within a few days of placing my order (I payed extra for quick delivery) and the shawls were definitely a very high quality for a pretty low price. I read all of the other reviews before ordering and I have to agree that they are a little scratchy on sensitive skin - but not bad enough to keep me from ordering one for myself...
