The New Yorker's Manhattan Map is durable, laminated, and small enough to fit into any pocket, while still showing every detail of Manhattan. This map includes building numbers to help you find any address in the city. The clearly marked subway stations, with all subway lines shown and labeled, will help you get around no matter how long you've been living in the city. All of Manhattan is shown, along with parks, museums, landmarks, police stations, libraries, and post offices.

...of Manhattan that I've seen or used. I've given away multiple copies to visitng friends, and it's the sort of map I like to always keep in my bookbag. Having lived in NYC three years and visited on many occasions before that, I appreciate the following things about the map:

1. It shows both streets and subways to scale. Usually one has to choose either huge street maps or abstract, not-to-scale subway maps. This map simply and cleanly locates the subway lines and stations exactly where they are on the street.

2. It has a slim profile and durable lamination. Nothing fancy, it just unfolds accordion-style. Even a tourist can discreetly check his location without attracting undue attention.

3. The entire island of Manhattan is illustrated in one piece, not like those tourist maps that suggest that anything north of Central Park is No Man's Land. People living in Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood will appreciate not having to turn the map over to view their neighborhoods.

4. It's cheap. No reason to spend a lot of money when an excellent product costs $5.

5. Easy to read and easy to use.

That being said, although this map would help a person drive in Manhattan, it's not really designed to be used while driving. (After all, it's for New Yorkers.) It has a full five-borough subway map on the back which is helpful for those times one must leave Manhattan, but it doesn't include much detail of the outer boroughs so as not to encourage us to linger.

You won't be disappointed with this product.
