Rating : - Love It-Best addition to a MPB
I have a two year old Mac Book Pro with a 100 gig hard drive inside of it and had been using an external Lacie D2 drive for bringing out to gigs (I store all of the audio samples/songs on an external drive). The problem is that it was too bulky and heavy and had a bulky power brick that I had to bring along, instantly adding unnecessary weight to my lap bag.
So I looked into the Lacie rugged drive and was a bit skeptical about it because it was a 5400rpm instead of the D2's 7200.
But I must say that I have been pleasantly suprized with the rugged drive. I have noticed little to none, audio performance issues. And it's light, small, and Bus powered via firewire 400 or 800. Awsome.
Let me say though. If you're a windows user with a pc laptop then I probably wouldn't recommend this because all pc laptops have the small firewire jack that is not capable of bus powering things, therefor you would have to buy an external power supply OR use the double usb cable hookup option which will take up two usb ports. Not optimal in my opinion.
